Trees from Crespi Catalogue

Juniperus chinensis - Chinese Juniper
Trees from catalogue: Chinese Juniper

This conifer grows spontaneously in China, Japan and Mongolia, reaching about 30m of height. Its characteristics are different according to the age of the tree: long, light and compact needle-shaped leaves appear on young trees, while mature trees present small and compact scales.
Juniper produces blue berries that become darker by ripening.
Thanks to its interesting characteristics it is one of the most suitable species to form as bonsai.
Its wood is flexible while green, but becomes hard and durable when dry: for this reason Juniper is particularly suited to the creation of dry, white wood (jin-shari).
It is a species greatly appreciated by amateurs, and it can be worked on all over the year, except for July and August.Trees from catalogue: Chinese Juniper

Location
Expose to full sun and air. Juniper can stand low temperatures, but it is better to protect the roots in case of severe frosts.

Watering
More frequent in summer. As general guideline let the soil dry a little bit again.

Fertilizing
Twice a month from April to July apply the Bonsan Liquid Organic Fertilizer together with the Bonsan Stimulant Fertilizer or, in alternative, apply once a month the Bonsan Solid Fertilizer Hanakogoro together with the Bonsan Stimulant Fertilizer. From the end of August to October fertilize twice a month with the Bonsan Liquid Organic Fertilizer or once a month with the Bonsan Solid Organic Fertilizer Hanakogoro; 3-4 times a year it is better to apply the Bonsan Mineral Curative Solution.

Transplanting
Every 2-4 years, early in spring or at the end of summer. Suggested soil: akadama (100%) of various grain sizes.

Rhododendron lateritium - Azalea

Trees from catalogue: Azalea

Rhododendron family is very wide and includes hundreds of shrubs with spectacular flowering. Most are native of Japan, where they have aroused particular interest since the 17th century and where they are still considered as a symbol of spring. Together with Pines and Maples, Azalea is one of the most common species trained as bonsai, since it presents all the ideal characteristics of small leaves (both deciduous or evergreen), powerful and beautiful trunk and attractive root flare. Flowering represents the most charming quality: flowers of 2, 3 different colours could be appreciated on the same tree and could be so abundant to hide completely the small, oval leaves.

Trees from catalogue: AzaleaLocation
Expose to full sun, but pay attention to sudden raising of temperature, which could damage the flowers. In summer place Azaleas in half-shade position and protect them in winter.

Watering
Water thoroughly and frequently all over the year, leaving the soil a bit humid. It is advisable to use the Decalcifying Solution.

Fertilizing
After flowering and consequent pruning apply the Bonsan Stimulant Fertilizer combined with the Bonsan Liquid Organic Fertilizer 3 times at intervals of 8 days. In all other periods use the Bonsan Solid Organic Fertilizer Hanakogoro every 15-25 days, except for July and August. In autumn and at the end of winter you can apply the Bonsan Solid Organic Fertilizer Hanakogoro; 6-8 times a year it is useful to give plants the Bonsan Mineral Curative Solution.

Transplanting
Every 2-3 years in May-June, after flowering. Kanuma (100%) is the ideal soil.
